PEGGY'S
LITTLE
CORNER
Easter Hound
Harry tries to usurp the Easter Bunny's position by depositing eggs throughout the yard.
April 20, 2019

The wild tulips are now in bloom, looking like living jelly beans, and getting blown very easily by our unseasonable warm weather. I do hope some plants are still hanging around to give us a beautiful Easter. I really do hate it when Easter arrives so late that all the early spring flowers have been spent.

I pulled all my terracotta pots out of the shed this week and filled them with dirt and compost. This is the first year I will be relying solely on my own potting soil mix from the compost heap. Within a couple of days, though, it became apparent that what seemed like clay, was actually very loamy, and I was obliged to dig some of our heavier soil to mix with what I had already placed in the pots. Once I got my soil mixed to satisfaction, I replaced my coco liners in the hanging baskets, filled them with some of the soil, and began planting the petunias I have grown all winter, along with some other hardy flowers.

Easter, though, cannot get here too soon! After weeks of fighting to keep my decorations in order, I have finally conceded the battle and removed my outdoor baskets. For two years running, now, Harry has waited for me to deposit my painted Easter baskets filled with plastic eggs into the middle of my garden boxes. As soon as the baskets go down, he rushes outside, grabs a basket handle in his mouth, and then goes racing back and forth across the lawn, tossing plastic eggs randomly into the grass. I don’t have an Easter bunny; I have an Easter coonhound!
