It was time for Harry’s first trip to the tree farm, and there were so many things for everyone to learn. First, it became apparent to us that poor little Harry gets very car sick! I know Dobby went through a stage like this in his puppyhood, but he eventually came to love riding in cars and rode very well. I hope this is just a phase, but I could tell the poor little mite was feeling a bit green around the gills on the way home.
It was also a bit of a learning curve for Harry, discovering that the pup who sits on his mommy’s lap gets a fine view out the window, and plenty of fresh air. Eventually, he got the hang of it, and found a nice little spot to poke his nose out the window. The contrast is so different from Dobby, whose mighty head and neck almost filled the window, to little Harry, now, whose little pointed head looks a bit like a peanut with long ears attached. How little his neck seems to me!
Once we were at the tree farm, though, there were so many sights and smells for Harry to take in. Every year there seems to be more and more people at the tree farm. This year, because of our late start, it was packed. Harry has never seen so many people or dogs in one place. I was proud, though, as he stood pretty calmly for such a young lad. A couple of people walked by, and Harry wagged expectantly, as though he wanted to make friends with some of them. Alas, everyone was too busy to pay attention to our spotted boy, but the rows and rows of pine trees more than made up for the experience. Once Harry got to the hills, he and my son took off at a quick run, and his tail wagged the whole way back with our tree.
Despite running around a tree farm all day, and having been sick on the way home, once we got the tree to the house, Harry simply did not quit. I have never seen so much energy in a dog, not even in Dobby! All evening Harry spent his time circling the tree and testing new hiding places beneath the branches, just as all our other dogs have done, but he doesn’t know is that the best is yet to come. Won’t he be excited when he sees what goes under the tree?
